Featured Artists: Audrey Gray and Juel Grant Show Runs: August 17 - Sept. 17 Open House: Friday, August 17, 5–8 pm Part of 3rd Friday in Manitou Springs This show redefines the term nature – both the natural world and the nature of specific objects, while drawing viewers into new perspectives of reality and questioning the fixed character of objects and the world around us.
Juel’s VSP (Very Small Paintings) series is concerned with faithfully rendering a subject, yet allowing the transient nature of perception and the observed to change, alter, and redirect the nature of the work. His focus is on the dialogue that takes place while simply responding to whatever characteristics and cadences are at play within an object, becoming blind to any particular identity or context.
Audrey’s newest work combines natural, found materials (primarily earth and minerals) to render nature in a new context and allow fresh perspectives our planet to come through. She concentrates on the ephemeral shifts in color and texture that slight variations in light and perspective provide.
