Artist Statement: I am a native Coloradoan, having lived in Montana for 14 years before returning to Colorado Springs to become the first female city park ranger. Living in the foothills below Pikes Peak, in one of the parks, I am surrounded and strongly influenced by nature, but my obsession has always been in primitive Old World cultural and ethnic art. In 1989, with a passion and relentless desire to create my own personal cultural art, I founded BEADS. To inspire my unique artistic expressions in jewelry, I began collecting beads from all corners of the world: Asia, Tibet, India, Africa, Europe, Australia, North and South America. I combine and mix all of these cultures together into my own ethnic creations, most of which are one-of-a-kind pieces. I also create shrine boxes made out of found objects, mostly from natural materials I like to call Eco-Art.
I design all of my jewelry and art with a great love for what I do, in the hope of passing that on to others through their enjoyment of my work. In combining ethnic creations from around the world with one another, I try to create an expression of harmony and beauty that compliments the whole, the way we all should be.
