Artist Statement: I am a Swiss-born artists who fell in love with art at the age of five, when I discovered I had a talent for painting, drawing, and sculpting. Today I am an accomplished fine artist, art therapist, art activist and art resource. My art has been exhibited in Galleries and Museums around the World. They have received numerous awards.
General Information: At the Commonwheel Artists Co-op I am currently showing my figurative sculpture. In recent years I have primarily concentrated on creating sculpture, in particular Terra Cotta Sculpture. I build those out of out-door quality clay which then is fired at high temperatures for durability. This makes each a one-of-a-kind original piece of art. The surface texture is quite rough due to the high grog content of the clay and deliberate patterns & graffito decorations. The ones that are over 36 inches tall are created in two pieces for easier handling. Permanent assembly can be executed by the artists or by following instructions. All pieces are signed and dated.
"My sculpture and bas-relieves are visions & images surfacing from the subconscious. They are artistic sculptural expressions that aim to relate emotions as well as spiritual and cultural views. I haven't used live models in years. I just let the spirit move me and carry me where it wills."
The smaller pieces often have a dual purpose. They can serve as tree or wall ornaments or as tee candle or other ornament holders. However they are all-round finished and free-standing as well. The little gold halo may be used for hanging the figurine up.
The Light Bearer is 15" tall holding a round tray. Sculptures such as these can also serve as tee candleholders.
Prices of individual pieces varies according to size and complexity. The following is an example of prices for the pieces on this page (some of these pieces may have been sold, please call for more information).
In addition to my terra cotta work I also exhibit reverse glass paintings at the Commonwheel. Subjects range from landscape scenics to angel art.
Marica's commission work is notable. She is very excited about her most recent project for St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. The work, entitled Three Sisters, is a large (30 feet long by 8 feet tall) outdoor Terra Cotta bas relief combined with a 6 foot tall free standing sculpture and a 9 foot tall tree made of steel whose branches reach across the whole length of the bas relief. "Mobiles' of round copper disks are attached to the branches. A shallow body of water underneath the entire piece serves as a mirror, making it seemingly float above the water. There will be an opening to unveil the work at a date TBA in July of 2008. For more information, and to track Marica's progress please visit her web blog at http://earthandfire-marica.blogspot.com/
